United Nations Vows to Move Towards a Pollution-Free Planet

The  United  Nations  development  Programme  plans  to  fully  support  the  objectives  of  this  year’s  General  Assembly  and  its  call  to  work  towards  a  pollution-  free  planet  to  help  advance  multiple  Sustainable  Development  Goals  (SDGs).

As  highlighted  in  the  Report  of  the  Executive  Director  of  UN  Environment,  the  impact  of  pollution  and  its  many  drivers  is  devastating  the  lives  and  livelihoods  of  those  groups  who  are  most  at  risk  and  least  responsible  for  the  unsustainable  policies  and  practices  that  are  degrading  our  planet.  We  only  have  to  look  around  to  see  natural  disasters  such  wildfires,  cyclones,  floods  etc.  wreaking  havoc  on  our  planet  and  setting  back  livelihoods  and  impeding  development.

The  UNDP  &  WHO  mindful  of  urgent  changes  required  are  also  implementing  the  “Climate  Change  adaptation  to  protect  Human  Health”  Project  with  the  support  from  GEF  Special  Climate  Change  Fund  to  increase  adaptive  capacity  of  national  health  systems  to  respond  to  climate-sensitive  health  risk,  enhance  early  warning  and  action  systems,  pilot  specific  health  risk  reduction  interventions,  and  document  lessons  learned  in  addressing  climate  associated  health  risks.
