The Government of Goa has decided to ban plastic bags in the coastal state from May next year, said the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Goa Liberation Day. He also said that they aim to make the state garbage- free by December next year.
Parrikar said that ‘Swachh Bharat’ and ‘Nitol Goem’ (Clean Goa) are on top of the government’s list of priorities. Claiming that the state’s economy is also dependent on cleanliness, Parrikar said, “If we keep our surroundings and beaches clean, more tourists will visiting the state.”
We commend this initiative particularly considering how much plastic ends up in our seas every year!
