Everything you need to know about the Climate strike

Millions of people from New York to London and Delhi to Manila will be on the streets marching for urgent action against the rising climate crisis. 

Today marks the start of a weeklong movement where scores of young people will skip school and work and get down on the streets to demand solutions and action by the policymakers and authorities on the rising global climate change. 

But what is this climate strike all about?

The climate strike first took place in November 2015 by a group of students who skipped school on the first day of the United Nations Climate change conference in Paris. Later it got publicized and gained momentum among the masses in 2018 when Greta Thunberg, a Swedish schoolgirl staged a protest outside the Swedish Parliament, holding a sign that said “School strike for the climate”

Greta continued to strike every Friday outside the parliament, skipping school asking the Swedish government to align with the Paris agreement. This garnered worldwide attention and students all across the world joined in, staging protests every Friday popularly calling this movement ‘Fridaysforfuture’

How massive it is?

The climate strike has become huge. Protests are going to be organized in 115 countries, 1000 cities. It is being considered the biggest mass protest in the history of the climate crisis. 

Millions of adults are joining in to support the protest this global climate week and it is going to be Historic. This is happening just ahead of the UN climate action summit to be held on 23 September 2019. The climate strike will be held today and again on 27 September. 

What can you do?

You can simply walk out of your homes, offices, factories to disrupt business as usual. You can simply refuse to accept the status quo by not carrying out business as usual.
